“Based on the type of equipment, it might be mandatory that officers complete an initial competency test as well as annual training,” Warren said. “It’s always a good idea regardless of the equipment that officers have an understanding of how the equipment works. The last thing you want to do is put someone in front of cameras and have them not understand even how the basic controls work. So whatever security equipment officers will use, have a competency checklist or post test or some method so you know they understood what you taught them.”
