10 ‘See Something, Say Something’ Success Stories

Where: Riverton High School, Riverton, Kansas

What: Five Riverton High School students were arrested after they posted their alleged school shooting plot on MySpace. The message stated there was going to be a shooting and that people should wear bulletproof vests and flak jackets.

A woman in North Carolina who had chatted with one of the suspects through the social media site notified authorities in her state, who contacted the sheriff’s department.

Sheriff’s deputies found guns, ammunition, knives and coded messages in the bedroom of one suspect. Authorities also found documents about firearms in two suspects’ school lockers.

In police interviews, the suspects said they planned to wear black trench coats and disable the school’s camera system before starting the attack they had been planning since the beginning of the school year.
