Student Safety Videos
Students are often inundated with safety brochures and other information packets at the beginning of the year, but videos can be far more effective at getting your message across. Above is an example of campus police getting creative with their messaging.
Of course, campus officials don’t have to be wannabe rappers to put together an attention-grabbing video. Kevin Wren, the director of risk, security and emergency management at Rock Hill School District (S.C.), says Rock Hill is working on creating a few short videos on safety best practices to help everyone feel safe on campus (without spoofing a hit pop song).
Guy Grace, the director of security and emergency planning for Littleton Public Schools (Colo.), says his district utilizes student-oriented training videos from the Red Cross. FEMA also offers videos, with the Student Tools for Emergency Planning (STEP) program offering content geared toward 4th and 5th grade students.
