We’ve already mentioned drug thefts and infant abductions at healthcare facilities. But if those are the only two things you’re looking out for, you may be leaving yourself vulnerable to other forms of theft. Hospitals hold expensive equipment, sensitive information and rare materials. One thing employees may not consider is the theft of X-ray films. In one 2013 case, over 15,000 X-rays were taken from a Henry Ford Health System warehouse in Detroit. Campus Safety has reported on the crime before. Some people try to extract silver from the films and sell it on the black market. The process of extracting the silver, however, is more difficult than most people think. Still, that doesn’t mean they won’t try it.
