Hospitals have a hard job. Most of the time when people enter hospitals they or someone they know is having health problems. That means they are often in high pressure, stressful situations. The result is that there are an unfortunate number of crimes committed in hospitals around the country every year.
Everyone is familiar with the typical crimes committed at hospitals. Assaults on nurses are far too frequent and have sparked protests in North America this year. Infant abduction is another crime that is in the news a lot. They don’t happen very often, but hospitals have invested in sophisticated infant protection systems in recent years. Inmate escapes, drug theft and gun violence are other forms of hospital crimes that get a lot of attention in the media.
The purpose of today’s slideshow isn’t to rehash the most well-known types of hospital crimes in the country, but rather to highlight the types of incidents that hospitals might not be as well prepared for. These are crimes Campus Safety has reported on in recent years that might not be considered major threats to the average hospital security official, but they deserve attention nonetheless.
