Professor Pleads Guilty to University of Ala. Faculty Shooting
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A former University of Alabama at Huntsville professor accused of killing three people at the university on Feb, 12, 2010, has pleaded guilty to murder.
Amy Bishop entered the plea in a deal that was expected to result in a sentence of life in prison instead of the death penalty, NBC News reports. It is not immediately clear how the plea agreement came about, as Judge Alan Mann had imposed a gag order on both sides until after the completion of the trial.
Bishop stood up during a faculty meeting in 2010 and fired a 9 mm pistol, killing biology Professors Maria Ragland Davis and Adriel Johnson, and Biology Department Chair Gopi Podila. She also wounded two others.
