“09/02/2024, at approximately 1537 hours, while finishing up my reports in CDU, I (Luis Montes) heard sudden, frantic screaming coming from the Emergency Room. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, I immediately left CDU to locate the source of the distress. The screams grew louder as I approached Station 4 labs. Upon arrival, I witnessed a Registered Nurse (Jane Doe) was cornered in the lab with patient Medical Record Number (blank) on top of her, punching the RN in the face. (JANE DOE) was desperately attempting to shield herself with her arms. I quickly intervened by pulling the patient away from (JANE DOE), de-escalating the situation just in time, and restraining the patient to the ground, allowing (JANE DOE) to exit the room safely. I immediately detained the patient to contain the situation
Once the patient was detained the emergency department staff and myself escorted the patient to a secure waiting area to await Law enforcement due to the battery that had occurred. LAPD Officers arrived shortly after, and subsequently arrested the patient for battery. Without immediate intervention from Security Officer Luis Montes, the Registered Nurse could have sustained injuries far more severe if he had not arrived to investigate the loud noises from the Lab. This is the reason why Officer Montes is being recognized for his quick and prompt response to the incident.”
