Man with Gun Outside Wisconsin ER Fatally Shot by Police

Waukesha, Wisconsin — Law enforcement officers fatally shot a man who pointed a firearm at them outside the emergency room entrance of Waukesha Memorial Hospital on Wednesday morning.

Authorities say officers from the Waukesha Police Department arrived at the hospital at about 1:30 a.m. in response to a report of a man with a gun in the parking lot, reports FOX6.

When the officers arrived, they found the suspect carrying a handgun near the emergency room. Hospital security then began locking down the facility as officers made contact with the man.

Officers talked with him, utilizing crisis intervention techniques and repeatedly asking him to drop his weapon, reports TMJ4. The police noticed a change in the suspect’s behavior and then he pointed the gun at the officers.

The officers then discharged their weapons, shooting the suspect. He was taken to the hospital emergency room for medical treatment where he succumbed to his injuries. No one else was injured during the ordeal.

A gun was found at the scene.

Authorities say the suspect was initially at the hospital for treatment in the emergency room. They are not looking for any other persons of interest.

Waukesha Memorial Hospital is located about 19 miles west of Milwaukee, reports ABC News.
