NORFOLK, Va. — Two people were shot and killed in a parking lot at Old Dominion University on Wednesday night.
Norfolk Police responded to calls of a shooting in a parking lot outside Broderick Dining Hall around 9:40 p.m., 12 on Your Side reports. The victims, identified as 18-year-old Delanio Vick and 20-year-old Timothy Williams, Jr., were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where they later died. The victims were not students at the school.
ODU Police Chief Garrett Shelton said his team was on the scene within a minute of calls coming in. A shelter-in-place order was issued at 10:01 p.m. but was later lifted at 11:43 p.m. Walk-in counseling services were also made available to students Thursday.

7 College Campus Shootings This Year
According to data from Everytown for Gun Safety, this is the seventh shooting that has occurred on a college campus this year. Of those shootings, three have been fatal.
On Jan. 20, a man was killed in an officer-involved shooting outside the Eastern Carolina University (ECU) North Recreational Complex, Campus Safety previously reported. A concerned family member called police around 4:30 p.m. to report a loved one was armed with a gun and threatening to harm himself. When officers arrived, the man reportedly raised the gun at the officers, prompting a GPD officer to fire his service weapon. The man died at the scene.
On Feb. 17, a person was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound outside Western Michigan University’s public safety building. This incident was the only college campus shooting from this year where a gunshot wound was self-inflicted, according to Everytown for Gun Safety.
