W. Va. House Expands School Bullying Policies

CHARLESTON, W. Va. — The House of Delegates has passed legislation that would give schools the authority to strengthen rules covering bullying. The measure was approved 80-20 on March 2 and sent to the state Senate.

The bill would allow school anti-bullying policies to cover off-campus areas such as school buses and bus stops, NECN reports. Also, the policies would cover cyberbullying in text messages, E-mail or postings to social networking sites under certain circumstances.

The measure is intended to target insulting or demeaning behavior that disrupts the school environment and causes emotional or physical harm to students.
