UCLA Protesters Allege Excessive Force

UCLA campus police are under investigation after protesters involved in the recent tuition hike demonstrations said unnecessary force was used against them.

UCLA officials will look into the use of tasers and pepper spray that was allegedly used during the campus protests last month after UC regents voted in favor of student fee increases to help combat the budget deficit.

Nearly a dozen students and police suffered minor injuries during the Nov. 18 and Nov. 19 demonstrations, reports the Los Angeles Times. More than 100 UCLA faculty members expressed concern in a letter to UCLA Chancellor Gene Block about the alleged tactics used by campus police. Some claimed students’ freedom of expression was violated while others said some protesters were acting dangerously and illegally.
