OXNARD, Calif.—Brandon McInerney, 17, has admitted in court to killing a gay classmate who he believed was flirting with him.

In 2008, McInerney, who was 14 at the time, smuggled a gun into E.O. Green Junior High School and shot 15-year-old Larry King in the head as he sat at a computer, reports the BBC. He could spend 21 years in jail.

Teachers testified that they went to administrators about King’s feminine attire and taunting behavior, but their concerns were ignored.
