More than three-quarters of Americans support deploying gun detection technology in schools, workplaces, and houses of worship, according to a new national survey. The data shows 77.4% of respondents favor integrating camera-based gun detection systems into existing video surveillance infrastructure.

The survey, which was sponsored by Eagle Eye Networks, was conducted by Propeller Insights from Sept. 16-24, 2025 and polled 1,038 U.S. consumers across 10 major cities, including New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas, and Austin. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points with a 95% confidence level.
Parents Express High Confidence in Gun Detection Technology
Parents showed particularly strong support for the technology in educational settings. An overwhelming 86% of parents reported they would feel more confident sending their children to schools equipped with gun detection systems.
The sentiment extended across political party lines, with 90% of Americans regardless of political affiliation saying they would feel more confident if schools integrated gun detection with video surveillance systems.
Jeffrey Tull, technology director at Socorro Schools in Socorro, N.M., said the technology provides reassurance to parents and educators.
“I believe parents and teachers are reassured that technology is in place in our school that can help protect students and staff from threats before they escalate,” Tull said.
Workplace Safety Concerns Drive Support Among Employees
Office workers nationwide echoed parental concerns about safety. The survey found 74.4% of U.S. workers reported feeling safer in offices equipped with gun detection technology, while 76.3% of workers nationwide said they would feel more secure with such systems in place.

Religious institutions also emerged as key locations where Americans believe gun detection technology should be deployed.
Jack Ely, building coordinator at St. Julian of Norwich Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas, noted the technology’s potential to protect congregations.
“Congregations gather in trust and faith, and today’s security technology can help protect those sacred spaces and ease people’s minds,” he said.
Key Survey Findings
The survey revealed consistent support across multiple categories:
- 77.4% of Americans believe AI-powered gun detection should be deployed in schools, workplaces, and houses of worship
- 86% of parents would feel more confident sending children to schools with gun detection technology
- 76.3% of workers reported feeling safer in offices with gun detection systems
- 90% of Americans, regardless of political party, support integrating gun detection with existing video surveillance in schools
Gun Detection Technology Offers Early Warning Capabilities
Proponents of the technology argue that AI-based gun detection systems can provide critical time for authorities and civilians to respond to active shooter situations. The systems work by analyzing video feeds from existing security cameras to identify firearms, potentially alerting security personnel before shots are fired.
The survey results indicate broad public acceptance of integrating advanced security measures into daily environments where large groups gather.
