In observance of Law and Society Week, the Community College of Philadelphia will be hosting its Judicial Affairs, Student Conduct and Campus Policing Symposium on Feb. 28. Topics covered will include Title IX, cyber crime, strategic planning, human trafficking, sexual assault and more.
The keynote speaker will be Kelley B. Hodge, Esq. who is the district attorney of Philadelphia. She will will be discussing administrators being self aware of their critical roles in the movement towards addressing sexual assault, gender- based harassment, intimate partner violence and safety on campus. Hodge will also cover readjusting higher education’s lens, identifying the gaps and balancing campus response in promoting safety, equity and fairness in education.
Additionally, Christina D. Riggs, Esq., who is the co-vice chair of Saul Ewing LLP’s higher education practice, will present Where Are We Now? Title IX Best Practices Following the Rescission of the 2011 Dear Colleague Letter and 2014 Q&A. She will be followed by FBI Special Agent Joseph Metzinger, who will present on computer and network intrusions, cyber crime, online predators, phishing and ransomware.
Community College of Philadelphia Director of Public Safety and Security Randolph Merced will present LGBTQ Students and Campus Sexual Assaults. He will highlight the disproportionate rates of sexual assault against individuals who identify as LGBTQ and stress the importance of LGBTQ-affirming, culturally competent services for sexual assault survivors.
Other notable presentations will include
- Ralph Riviello, who serves as medical director for the Philadelphia Sexual Assault Response Center, and Michael Boyle of the Philadelphia Police Department will present on sexual assault medical/forensic issues
- Jonathan Kassa of Allied Universal will host an open discussion on the state of campus public safety to determine how institutions are developing strategies to meet the complex demands of campuses
- CSE Institute Director and Co-Founder Shea M. Rhodes, Esq. will present Human Trafficking in Pennsylvania: The Legal Perspective
The event will take place in Philadelphia at the Community College of Philadelphia in the Winnet Student Life Building, located on 17th Street between Spring Garden and Callowhill, Great Hall, Room S2-19 on the second floor.
Admission is free and a continental breakfast will be included. CLE credit is available.
