A deadly police shooting ended a standoff in San Francisco where a gunman had been allegedly shooting at a nearby hospital Nov. 11.
Javier Ivan Lopez Garcia, 25, was shot to death on the top of a construction elevator after firing at least one shot from one of his weapons. From his perch on the construction site Garcia was allegedly shooting at Saint Luke’s Hospital across the street, according to ktvu.com. Officers confirmed Garcia was aiming at the hospital when they opened fire.
Garcia’s death ended an active shooter situation that caused the hospital to be locked down and multiple roads to be cleared while dozens of San Francisco Police Department units converged on the scene. The SWAT team also responded to the incident.
Police received reports about a man walking with two weapons near the hospital around 4:15 p.m. and responding officers quickly heard gunfire coming from the construction area.
San Bruno police have confirmed that Garcia was the suspect in a robbery at a Big 5 sporting goods store earlier in the day when a man with a handgun stole a shotgun and bullets. Police initially announced that the suspect matched the description of Garcia.
