BREMERTON, Wash. — A woman and her boyfriend have been charged after the woman’s third-grade son brought a gun to school. The gun discharged in a classroom, injuring a classmate.
Police believe the boy took the gun from the glove compartment of his mother’s car, MSNBC reports. The boy had told friends he was planning to run away from his uncle’s house, where he lives, and was bringing a gun for protection.
Amina Kocer-Bowman, 8, the victim of the accidental shooting, has undergone at least five surgeries. The bullet is lodged in her spine, and doctors said it probably cannot be removed.
