Police found a “large volume” of hydrocodone with Adams after the crash, although they did not suspect drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.

Adams was being treated for non-incapacitating injuries at the hospital when a nurse discovered his body. Doctors initially attempted to revive Adams, but he was pronounced dead at 6:15 Tuesday.

Bayfront Health’s policies do not allow staff to discuss security measures, and it was not immediately known how Adams got a gun inside the hospital. A hospital spokesperson did say that they have conducted drills to prepare for emergency scenarios and worked with local law enforcement in the past.
