Lawyers: UAH Officials Knew Amy Bishop Was a Threat

Published: July 10, 2013

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The families of two University of Alabama, Huntsville (UAH) professors who were killed by UAH Professor Amy Bishop in 2010 are claiming through their attorneys that school officials knew Bishop was mentally unstable and dangerous three months before the shootings occurred.

Al.com is reporting that the lawyers have provided evidence in court they say prove that two UAH administrators fled their offices in 2009 under police protection rather than meet with Bishop, who was upset about her being denied tenure.

A few months later in February of 2010 Bishop stood up during a faculty meeting and fired a 9 mm pistol, killing biology Professors Maria Ragland Davis and Adriel Johnson, and Biology Department Chair Gopi Podila. She also wounded three others. No students were involved. Bishop pleaded guilty to the murders and is serving a life sentence.

The lawsuit claims that UAH administrators attempted to cover-up their activities involving Bishop.
