RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Twelve students were killed in a shooting at an elementary shooting in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday, according to officials. The gunman, a former student, killed himself.
Wellington Menezes de Oliveira, 23, injured at least 12 others at the Tasso da Silva Municipal School before taking his own life, the Los Angeles Times reports. Police were called to the scene by a wounded student who escaped from the school.
Menezes de Oliveira posed as a lecturer to gain access to the school. He brought two revolvers with him onto the campus. Police say he left a rambling suicide note.
Ten boys and two girls were reportedly killed during the shooting.
