DEKALB, Ill. — The public defender representing the man accused of murdering a Northern Illinois University (NIU) student has requested a psychiatric evaluation for her client.
William Curl, 34, was charged with the murder of 18-year-old NIU freshman Antinette “Toni” Keller. The victim was last seen leaving her residence hall on Oct. 14, as she was headed to a nearby park to look for ideas for an art project, reports The Daily Herald. Police found charred human remains near some of Keller’s things in the park two days later.
The body has not been identified yet, as the process to identify the body can take weeks, or even months.
Curl, a frequent visitor to the park, has been charged with five counts of first-degree murder, one charge of arson and one charge of criminal sexual assault. His bail was set at $5 million.
