Campus Safety magazine is happy to announce the keynote speakers and general session panels for the Campus Safety Online Summit happening July 7-8, 2020!
The Campus Safety Online Summit is a free 2-day virtual event that will cover topics including lessons learned from COVID-19, issues related to the re-opening of schools and campuses, mental health, and much more! Speakers include law enforcement, emergency management, and safety and security professionals who are passionate about sharing their insight and knowledge to help you keep your students, faculty and staff safe.
Day 1 Keynote
Dr. Melissa Reeves will deliver the opening keynote, ‘Mental Health and COVID-19: Caring for Others and Yourself in Times of Change and Uncertainty,’ on Tuesday, July 7, at 11:00 AM ET.
This keynote, sponsored by Napco, will explore how to recognize the signs/symptoms of stress among staff, campus first responders, students, and ourselves, while also providing concrete strategies to help identify, understand, and manage emotions.
Dr. Reeves will also share resources that prioritize relationships, human connections, and balancing physical and psychological safety will be emphasized.
Dr. Reeves is the past-president of the National Association of School Psychologists (2016-17), a nationally certified school psychologist, licensed clinical mental health counselor, and licensed special education teacher. She has over 19 years of experience working in public schools, a private school, and day and residential treatment programs. Dr. Reeves travels both nationally and internationally training professionals in crisis prevention and intervention, threat and suicide assessment, trauma and PTSD, and cognitive-behavioral interventions.

Day 2 Keynote
The U.S. Department of Education Office of Safe and Supportive Students’ (OSSS) Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) Technical Assistance (TA) Center’s Bronwyn Roberts and Janelle Hughes will deliver the Day 2 Keynote, ‘Recovering from All Threats and Hazards: Creating Community Partnerships So Your School and Campus Can Get Back on Its Feet,’ on Wednesday, July 8, at 10:00 AM ET.
This keynote, also sponsored by Napco, will provide an overview of how agreements can support school district recovery following threats and hazards.
Specifically, Roberts and Hughes will give an overview of different types of agreements that can be used to support various emergency management functions, including reunification, relocation, use of schools as shelters, continuity of teaching and learning, behavioral health, food and transportation services, victim advocacy, and more.
Janelle Hughes is the deputy director of the OSSS and REMS TA. She provides technical assistance and training on K-12 and higher ed preparedness to local, regional, state, territorial and tribal education and emergency management agencies.
Bronwyn Roberts is the director of the OSSS and REMS TA. She has facilitated thousands of technical assistance and training sessions to K-12, higher ed, and state education agency entities nationwide.

General Session Panels, Additional Speakers
General session panels, titled ‘Road to Re-Opening Your District or Campus,’ will be led by highly regarded security directors, emergency managers, police chiefs and consultants. They will discuss operational planning, social distancing, sanitation, enhanced technologies, all-hazards emergency planning and more.
The K-12 focused panel, sponsored by Drift Net Securities, will take place on July 7 at 1:00 PM ET. The higher ed focused panel, sponsored by Transact, will take place on July 8 at 1:00 PM ET.
