HUMBOLDT, Calif. — Humboldt County school districts are updating anti-bullying policies to comply with new laws that expand the definition of bullying to include bullying over social media sites like Facebook and harassment based on sexual orientation or ethnicity.
California Assembly Bill 746 and Assembly Bill 1156 will go into effect July 1, expanding the definition of bullying and cyberbullying, the Times-Standard reports. Assembly Bill 9, signed into law in July 2011, addresses bullying based on gender, gender identity, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation.
The Eureka City School board will consider a policy in June to encourage schools to address bullying and harassment in their comprehensive school safety plans.
