Armored Car Robbery Survivor Wakes from Coma

EDMONTON, Alberta — A security officer who was the sole survivor of an armored car robbery at the University of Alberta earlier this month has woken up from a coma.

Matthew Schuman survived a gunshot wound to the head and underwent surgery the same day, QMI Agency reports. Since doctors woke him up from an induced coma on June 19, Schuman’s communication skills have been limited and he is undergoing physiotherapy to restore his motor skills.

Travis Baumgartner, a fellow officer working on an exchange of funds inside a bank machine vault at the university, has been arrested for the murders of guards Michelle Shegelski, Brian Ilesic and Eddie Rejano.
