How Hospital Security Officers Differ from School and University Officers

Collaborating with Clinical Staff and Working with Regulations
Hospital security officers frequently work with clinical staff members at their institution. Nurses and doctors will often call officers with problems and, conversely, officers need to be able to contact clinical staff members in the case of health emergencies. In fact, patients exhibiting aggressive behavior are more susceptible to adverse health developments, meaning officers and clinical staff members must work together.
Working alongside nurses and doctors is required more than one might think. For example, a patient may require sedation from the clinical staff and de-escalation verbal commands by the security officer. Sometimes a team approach can lead to greater success.
Some states also require healthcare facilities to follow detailed workplace violence response plans that regulate how hospital personnel can respond to and investigate workplace violence.
