Director of the Year Nominations Due Nov. 1

Published: September 30, 2010

LOS ANGELES — The editors and staff at Campus Safety magazine are pleased to announce that the publication is now accepting nominations for the fifth annual Director of the Year Awards program. Hospital, school and university police chiefs and directors of public safety are encouraged to submit their entries. All nominations must be postmarked by Nov. 1.

The awards program, which is sponsored by Campus Safety magazine, recognizes campus security professionals who go above and beyond the call of duty, demonstrating outstanding leadership skills, ingenuity, selflessness and overall achievement. Last year’s winners were David Dougherty, director of security services for Canton, Ohio-based Aultman Hospital; and Michael Parks, director of campus security for Minnesota State University, Moorhead.

Parks’ performance during the Red River flood of 2009 was a big reason why he was the 2009 education winner. He served as campus incident commander and managed 25,000 volunteers, the call center, delivery of 40,000 pounds of food and housing arrangements during the emergency.

Turning the campus parking deck into a business structure unit helped Dougherty earn the healthcare award. The revenue generated from that venture paid for maintenance, lighting upgrades and the installation of video surveillance equipment.
