Congratulations to Byron McCray, Director of School Safety, Chief Emergency Management Officer at Brentwood Union Free School District, for being named one of this year’s K-12 school/district Campus Safety Director of the Year finalists.
Some of his notable achievements include:
- Implemented the Student and Community Relations Officers (SACRO) Program, utilizing restorative justice practices to create positive, reciprocal relationships among students, schools, and external entities.
- Established a crisis team responsible for monitoring student devices, specifically laptops, to identify bullying, suicidal ideation, weapons, bombs, or child sexual exploitation.
- Installed sensors in bathrooms to detect vaping, smoking, THC, and other dangerous chemicals, as well as detect aggressive behavior via audio (because cameras can’t be installed in bathrooms.)
Winners of this year’s Director of the Year award will be announced at this summer’s 2024 Campus Safety Conference, taking place in Atlanta, Georgia, July 8-10. For more information and to register, visit CampusSafetyConference.com.
