Congratulations to Brown County (Kansas) Sheriff John Merchant for being named one of this year’s K-12 Campus Safety Director of the Year finalists.
Here are some of his notable achievements:
- Developed the “Teen Lifesaver Initiative,” which has trained and certified nearly 2,000 high school students, teachers, staff members, and residents on the American Heart Association’s First Aid, CPR, and AED Heartsaver program.
- Established the first Brown County Sheriff’s Office Chaplaincy Program with the addition of a local pastor as a part-time deputy.
- Established a child safety car seat fitting station to assist families with the proper installation of child restraint systems.
