Md. School Security Head Charged with Child Abuse
The suspect has been placed on administrative leave as police investigate the allegations.
Mark Yantsos had worked for Montgomery County Public Schools for ten years.
The head of security at a Maryland high school was arrested after a 17-year-old student told police he had sex with her.
Mark Yantsos, 57, was charged with sexual abuse of a minor and fourth-degree sex offense by Montgomery County police on April 6.
Yantsos was serving as the security team leader at Richard Montgomery High School at the time of his arrest. He had worked for Montgomery County Public Schools for ten years. Previously, Yantsos was an officer with the New York Police Department.
The alleged victim’s mother said she became aware of the abuse recently and immediately told school officials. The alleged victim told police Yantsos bought her gifts including a cell phone and a diamond necklace over the last year. In March, the student said Yantsos drover her to a hotel room and had sex with her.
School officials released a statement informing parents that Yantsos has been placed on administrative leave.
A judge ordered Yantsos to be held on $75,000 bond and instructed him not to contact the alleged victim if he is released, reports Bethesda Magazine.
