Gunman Kills Doctor, Self at Boston Hospital

Suspect asked for cardiologist by name.

A gunman shot a doctor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital Tuesday morning before turning the gun on himself.

The incident began when Stephen Pasceri, 55, came into the Harvard-affiliated hospital and specifically asked for Dr. Michael Davidson, 44, who is the director of Endovascular Cardiac Surgery and an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. The gunman then shot the cardiologist twice, reports the Chicago Tribune. Davidson 12 hours later.

Soon after the initial shooting, police found the suspect dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Center.

Pasceri’s dead mother was a patient of Davidson’s, reports the Inquistr.

Hospital staffers, security officers and police are being praised for their quick response to the situation. Since 2009, Boston police have worked closely with local hospitals to improve security, reports MyFoxBoston.

The hospital made an announcement about a life-threatening situation and instructed visitors to evacuate, reports the Boston Globe.
