A school board in Wisconsin approved a $150,000 security upgrade that will improve the district’s video surveillance camera system.
The Sun Prairie Area School District secured the upgrade in a Dec. 8 board meeting when board members approved a contract with Communications Engineering Company, according to hngnews.com.
The money will be budgeted in the district’s 2015-2020 Capital Budget Master Plan and will require additional funding in coming years.
The current video surveillance system, which features 267 security cameras in its 11 schools and the District Office, is aging and predominantly analog.

The first year of the system rollout will focus on improving the software and technology in the current system while the more extensive camera replacement will follow that step.
The new system will also include security cameras on athletic fields along with school buildings and school administrators will have access to the camera footage.
