Wash. University Partners With City SWAT Team

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — An inter-local agreement approved in January allows selected Western Washington University police officers to train with the city police department’s SWAT team.

The SWAT team will provide support in critical situations, according to the new agreement. The agreement was formed after university police realizing they did not have the resources to cope with an active shooter incident, The Western Front reports.

There is currently one university officer working on the SWAT team, said University Police Sgt. Bianca Smith.
