SILVERDALE, Wash. — Local Sheriff’s officials arrested a 12-year-old boy Dec. 15 after school officials found a “hit list” on the student, along with hand-drawn maps of sections of Ridgetop Junior High School.

The situation came to light as a result of an adult monitoring a youth online chat room where the boy allegedly made comments about the plot. The adult reported his concerns to a local FBI office, which traced the comments to an IP address, reports Yahoo News.

The authorities then contacted Ridgetop Junior High School officials who then searched the youth’s belongings. They found the maps, as well as a list containing the names of 18 students and school personnel, reports the Associated Press.

He allegedly planned to use a gun, although he didn’t have the means to carry out the plot.
