Since December’s Newtown, Conn., mass shooting, those of us in the campus safety community have been debating whether or not K-12 teachers and other staff members should be allowed to carry firearms on campus.
Although we’ve touched briefly on the insurability of this move, this aspect of the gun debate is covered more in depth in Monday’s Atlantic Wire article. The publication estimates the national cost to insure all schools if they allow teachers and staff to carry concealed firearms would be more than $1.1 billion. That doesn’t include the costs for training and other precautions.
