Be Careful When Buying Classroom Barricade Devices

Expert says many of these products are not code compliant and could nullify the warrantees of locks and door hardware.

Since the Sandy Hook mass shooting in 2012, many campuses are considering the purchase of products that teachers can use to barricade classroom doors during an active shooter incident or lockdown.

According to Paul Timm of RETA Security, however, many of these devices do not comply with NFPA or ADA codes. Additionally, many of them could nullify the warrantees of locks and door hardware.
