NORFOLK, Va. — Old Dominion University will consider banning firearms from campus buildings after Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli said concealed-weapon permit holders may bring their guns into the buildings.
Administrators have drafted a regulation that would ban all guns — except those carried by police — from campus buildings and sporting events, The Virginian-Pilot reports. The regulation will be considered by the university’s governing Board of Visitors at its December meeting.
In July, Cuccinelli said a University of Virginia policy banning guns from campus does not apply to holders of concealed-weapon permits. He said that universities may ban these guns by enacting a regulation — as opposed to policy — because regulations have the force of law.
