Virginia — The Supreme Court has chosen to uphold George Mason University’s firearm ban. The university does not allow guns in campus buildings or at sports and entertainment events.
The justices voted unanimously on Jan. 13 to support Fairfax Circuit Judge Michael McWeeny‘s ruling that the policy did not violate the Second Amendment, PilotOnline.com reports. The justices referenced an earlier ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court stating that guns can be prohibited in sensitive areas such as schools and government facilities.
The policy was challenged by Rudolph DiGiacinto, a gun owner who regularly uses campuses facilities such as the library.
