KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — For the first time, city police and Knox County Schools security officers trained together for a week before the start of the new school year to learn new skills.
School security officers practiced at the firing range at the police department’s training facility and learned new defense tactics from police SWAT team members, WATE.com reports. The security officers will work with police if they are called to the schools to address threats such as an active shooter.
Officers were paired up and sent through a training course where they fired their handguns in rooms where a simulated threat required them to use deadly force.
