AURORA, Ill. – A Metea Valley High School junior has been ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation after making threats that he would commit a ‘Columbine-style’ attack of the campus.
The 16-year-old allegedly texted several students at the school about his intentions, reports the Chicago Tribune. His classmates then reported the threats to a police officer at the campus. The student was then taken to a local hospital Dec. 5.
Metea Valley High School Principal Jim Schmid sent the following recorded message to parents after the student was apprehended:
“This is principal Jim Schmid with an important message for Metea Valley parents. It has come to the attention of school administrators that there have been rumors circulating regarding a possible safety threat towards students or staff. I want to reassure you that the Aurora Police Department and school officials have identified the source of the rumors, and have taken the necessary and appropriate steps to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We look forward to seeing you in the morning and please be assured that the safety of our students is always our top priority.”
