Suspect Arrested in Connection to University of Kentucky Sexual Assault

The same man is also believed to have previously harassed and stalked dozens of other woman at a different university in Kentucky.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Louisville Airport Police arrested a man in connection to a sexual assault that happened on the University of Kentucky (UK) campus November 10.

Saif Al-Khafaji, 21, was charged with first degree sexual abuse and second degree indecent exposure on November 23.

UK police say the assault happened near the intersection of Rose St. and Euclid Ave. Two women were walking on campus, coming back from a bar when someone grabbed one of them and tried to drag her into a parking lot, reports LEX18.

After the public was notified of the assault, UK law enforcement learned about another incident also involving Al-Khafaji. In that case, he exposed himself to another woman on campus.

Campus security cameras were used to identify Al-Khafaji as the suspect, reports WKYT.

Court documents indicate he was cited for harassing and stalking more than three dozen women at Eastern Kentucky University last year, but he was not arrested. Authorities say Al-Khafaji would target women while they were walking on campus and pressured them to go back with him to his dorm room. Each of his victims told campus police they were afraid he would hurt them, sexually assault them, or kidnap them, reports WDRB.

Al-Khafaji told authorities he offered one student money to model for him.

The crime bulletin about the November 10 incident was the fifth sexual assault crime bulletin sent to the campus community since the beginning of the fall semester, reports the Kentucky Kernel.
