HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – An eighth grade student experienced a strained neck and hemorrhaging in both eyes after being restrained by an aide at Dorothy Thomas School. School officials at the Hillsborough County School district say the aide was well trained and acted appropriately.
Abdullah Fisher, 14, knocked papers out of his teacher’s hand and refused punishment, according to Bay News 9. It was then that the aide put him in a neck hold. Fisher told the news source that he repeatedly informed the aide he couldn’t breathe.
Fisher’s mother, Deborah Williams, wants the aide to face criminal charges. She says her son is mentally challenged and can, at times, be disruptive.
Child Protective Services is investigating the incident.
