FLINT, Mich. — A shooting at Mott Community College’s (MCC) Ballenger Field House on Saturday afternoon has prompted the institution to implement enhanced security protocols.
The incident, described by campus public safety officials as isolated, occurred around 3:50 p.m., leaving one victim injured and one suspect in custody.

The victim, who was not affiliated with the college, was transported to a hospital where they are currently recovering. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was apprehended immediately following the shooting, reports MLive.

Both individuals are confirmed not to be students or employees of Mott Community College.
In response to the incident, MCC has announced several new security measures, reports ABC12. These include mandatory security screenings at athletic events and a prohibition on large bags within the field house. The college also continues to maintain round-the-clock police patrols and has a network of 400 surveillance cameras monitored 24/7.
The college campus is equipped with outdoor emergency blue light phones and indoor emergency call boxes with panic alarms that directly connect to the department of public safety.
MCC President Offers Support to Victim and Campus Community
Mott Community College President Shaunda Richardson-Snell expressed the college’s solidarity with those affected by the incident.

“We are a community that cares deeply for one another and our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this incident,” Richardson-Snell said in a statement.
She urged anyone needing additional support to take advantage of the counseling services available on campus.
Classes and campus activities have resumed as scheduled.
