S. Daniel Carter to Provide Clery Training at Campus Safety Conference

LONG BEACH, Calif.

Security On Campus Director of Public Policy S. Daniel Carter will deliver an in-depth presentation on the new Federal Jeanne Clery Act requirements at the Campus Safety Conference, which will take place at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, Calif., in late March.

The Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA) was signed into law last year and now requires institutions of post-secondary education to have and disclose an emergency response and evacuation plan as well as to begin reporting additional hate crimes. Also, institutions that offer on-campus student housing will be required to have and disclose missing student protocols.

Carter’s four-hour presentation will cover all of these developments and include tips on how to avoid some of the most common Clery compliance mistakes, how to establish strong internal reporting protocols, and how the Clery Act integrates with the new campus fire safety reporting requirements, which also take effect in 2010.

This year’s Campus Safety Conference will co-locate with Police/TREXPO, so attendees will benefit from the expanded list of exhibitors who are today’s top law enforcement, security and safety equipment and service providers.
