SANTA MONICA, Calif. ─ A lockdown at Santa Monica College was called off after police found no sign of a gunman or victim. A street near the college was also reopened.
Sgt. Richard Lewis said the female student who reported shots fired might have mistaken the noise of ongoing construction for gunshots, the Los Angeles Times reports.
After authorities swept the campus, they determined there was no gunman in the area.
Santa Monica College was put on lockdown at 11:30 a.m. after police received three calls that there was a gunman, the Los Angeles Times reports. The school is currently on summer break.
John Adams Middle School and Will Rogers Learning Community were also on lockdown.
