A police investigation is ongoing after a Santa Rosa Junior College student reported she was raped in a campus bathroom on August 20.
The student, whose name is not being released, reported the incident to staff at Sutter Hospital five days after it occurred, according to pressdemocrat.com.
The alleged rape occurred around 9 p.m. in a bathroom after the student finished an evening class in Burnett Hall. The student says a masked man wearing all black pushed her against a wall and sexually assaulted her.
Santa Rosa Junior College has an open campus, and although the school’s interim police chief says he thinks the campus is safe he instructed students to travel in groups and be aware of their surroundings at all times.
The alleged incident has sparked a review of the college’s security measures, including the lighting in different parts of campus. College police have also increased patrols.
Santa Rosa Police are investigating the incident and reviewing footage from surveillance cameras but have a very vague description of the man.
