PITTSBURGH — A man carrying two semiautomatic handguns opened fire in the lobby of the psychiatric clinic at the University of Pittsburgh on March 8, killing one person and wounding several others.
Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said the gunman was then shot dead by at least one University of Pittsburgh police officer, the Associated Press reports. An officer was injured in the gunfire; it was unclear if it was the same officer who killed the gunman.
Employees and a visitor were injured, according to Dr. Donald Yealy, chair of emergency medicine at the university’s medical school.
The gunman was not carrying identification, and his fingerprints, which were run through a national database, did not indicate his identity. Additionally, authorities do not know the motive for the shooting.
