EDINBURG, Texas — Two students at Harwell Middle School were shot Dec. 12 while trying out for a basketball team. Police believe the boys may have been shot by hunters.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said it was not yet known if the shooting was accidental or if the boys were targeted, the Associated Press reports. Investigators believe the shots were fired from an adjacent farm property.
One of the boys was in critical condition with a bullet embedded in an organ. The other was stable and awaiting X-rays.
