Death Threats Lead to Police Finding Bomb Supplies, Gun in Dorm

LOS ANGELES — Campus police at California State University, Northridge, detained a student on Jan. 3 after a counselor alerted officers to the student’s potentially dangerous mental state. Police later discovered a shotgun and bomb-making materials in the student’s dorm room.

David Everson’s bail had previously been set at $150,000 but was raised by a judge to $1 million, Reuters reports. Everson had made direct threats to kill or harm seven people. He was initially sent to a mental health facility and later transported to a jail that caters to inmates with psychological disorders.

Everson pledged not guilty on Jan. 14 to charges of possessing bomb-making materials and a firearm on campus. He is due back in court on Jan. 28.
