ISSAQUAH, Wash. — Officers who used lethal force against a gunman at Clark Elementary School said at a court hearing Tuesday they were afraid the suspect would flee campus and shoot bystanders in surrounding neighborhoods.
Ronald W. Ficker, 51, was fatally wounded in a shootout with police at the school in September, the Issaquah Press reports. He had abandoned a rental car in an intersection and headed to the campus, carrying rifles and ammunition. He fired a weapon at officers and bystanders upon reaching the campus.
The officers testified as part of an inquest to determine the circumstances in the officer-involved shooting.
