Dover, New Hampshire – A Wentworth-Douglass Hospital security officer is being praised for his actions in helping a woman deliver a baby in the hospital’s parking lot earlier this month.
On September 12, Rochela Gonzalez and her partner had just arrived in their SUV at the birthing center when their baby, Tiago, was born while still inside the car, reports WMUR.
Video surveillance cameras caught security officer Andrew Clark race toward the vehicle and help the mother wrap Tiago in a blanket. However, the baby had stopped crying, and Clark felt something was wrong.
He then noticed the umbilical cord was wrapped around Tiago’s neck. Both Clark and the mother removed the cord “and gave him a little tap,” said Clark. The baby then started to cry.
Clark credits his instincts as a father in knowing what to do in that situation.
When Clark was reunited with the family, he gave them a bag of gifts and a book signed by the hospital’s security department.
