OMAHA, Neb. — A 17-year-old student opened fire at Millard South High School this morning, fatally wounding the vice principal. He then fled the scene and killed himself in his car.

Robert Butler Jr., the son of a detective from the Omaha Police Department, had transferred to the school only two months prior to the shooting. In a rambling Facebook post on the morning of the incident, Butler warned that he had been driven to violence by the school, the Associated Press reports.

Vice Principal Vicki Kaspar died of her injuries in a hospital after the shooting. Principal Curtis Case, who was also shot, is reported to be in stable condition.

The school was put on lock down during the shooting. Two hours later, students were released in groups.
